Pipeline for audiovisual projects

Pipeline design, development and improvement for VFX, animation and CGI studios and producers: custom tools for productions, integrations between your platforms, and leadership of technical teams. 18 years as a pipeline TD and software developer on international productions (including the ftrack Studio team).

Pipeline for VFX and animation studios

The pipeline is the set of tools and workflows that connects every department of a production. When it works, artists focus on creating; when it fails, time and money are lost. As a VFX pipeline consultant I design, develop and improve that machinery: audiovisual pipeline and animation pipeline alike.

I work the pipeline end to end: as a pipeline TD, TD (technical director), pipeline engineer and software developer I've built tools, integrations and automations for VFX, animation and CGI, and led technical pipeline teams on international productions. The service is open to audiovisual production in general, beyond visual effects.

What it includes: pipeline development and design, integration of production-management and audiovisual project-management tools (such as ftrack, Ayon or Flow), custom tools development for productions (DCC tooling), integrations between platforms, automation of repetitive tasks, leadership of technical pipeline teams, and audit and improvement of existing pipelines. It is, in essence, production management and audiovisual project management solved from a technical perspective.

Why

Why an outside pipeline consultant

Building or rebuilding a pipeline from the inside competes with day-to-day deliveries. An outside consultant brings senior TD (technical director) judgment, architecture decisions already proven on international productions, and a tool-agnostic point of view: the goal is for your studio to produce better, not to sell a particular tool.

FAQs

Audiovisual pipeline: frequently asked questions

What is an audiovisual pipeline?

It's the set of tools, integrations and workflows that connects a production's departments (modeling, animation, VFX, render, editing…) so data flows without repeated manual work or errors.

Do you only work with VFX, or also animation and other formats?

My background is VFX and CGI, but the service is open to audiovisual production in general: animation, feature film, advertising or any production with a technical pipeline behind it.

Are you tied to a specific tool like ftrack, Ayon or Flow?

No. ftrack, Ayon and Flow are just some of the production-management tools out there; I work with whichever fits your studio best and, if needed, build a custom one. The offer is tool-agnostic.

Can you develop custom tools and integrations?

Yes. As a tools developer and software developer I build custom tools for productions, integrations between the platforms you already use, and pipeline-specific automations when off-the-shelf options don't cover the studio's case.

Do you lead technical pipeline teams?

Yes. When needed, I lead pipeline and TD teams, audit and improve existing pipelines, and train the studio's in-house team.

Do you work remotely and with international studios?

Yes. I've worked on international productions (Madrid, Wellington, Stockholm…) and the pipeline consulting service works remotely without issue.

Shall we talk about your production?

Tell me where your pipeline stands and where your studio gets stuck. On the first call I'll tell you how I'd approach it: audit, pipeline development, custom tools or technical team leadership.
